Hassan Kara-Ali continued his recent good form with a comfortable win in Saturday’s Stableford event at the Loxton Golf Club. Kara-Ali has been a regular in the best performers list for many weeks, and this week his 42 points saw him a full five points ahead of his nearest rival, Peter Moller, who complied a solid 37 points.
Most competitors struggled with the difficult course set up. The near perfect fairways were surrounded by unusually high grass for the first cut and those who strayed from the fairways were severely punished. The humid weather added an extra element to the already testing conditions. As a result, Kara-Ali, Moller and Craig Tresize were the only players to play to, or better, their handicaps.
Kara-Ali parred five holes in his 86 stoke round and his handicap is rapidly dwindling. Moller was left pondering what could have been, with two “scrubs” preventing him from posting an even more impressive score.
In Wednesday’s Stableford, David Unferdorben scored 39 points, to win comfortably from Mike Taylor and Kara-Ali.
There are only two competitions left in the summer season, with the Winter Season opening with the traditional Men’s and Mixed Pinehurst competition on Sunday 28th February. Members are urged to organise their playing partners as soon a possible.
